Author Guidelines

“Progress in Nutrition” publishes reviews, original scientific articles and letters to the Editor. The contributions should not have been published or submitted to other journals. The Journal publishes only in English.

The publication of the afore mentioned documents is not remunerated. The Journal publishes 4 issues for year: n. 1 (March issue), n. 2 (June issue), n. 3 (September issue) and n. 4 (December issue).

Manuscripts should be submitted directly to the online Editorial Office on the Progress in Nutrition website: www.progressinnutrition.it.

Progress in Nutrition (PN) requires that all manuscripts follow the “Recommendations for the conduct, reporting, editing, and publication of scholarly work in medical journals” issued by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) (link to ICMJE recommendations).

The corresponding author, on behalf of all authors, must declare all potential conflicts of interest, including financial, consultant, institutional, and other relationships that could present a conflict in relation to the article’s content. Any financial connections should be disclosed at the end of the article, before the references, under the Conflict of Interest Statement section. If no conflicts exist, include the statement:
"Each author declares that he or she has no commercial associations (e.g., consultancies, stock ownership, equity interest, patent/licensing arrangement, etc.) that might pose a conflict of interest in connection with the submitted article."
Manuscripts without this declaration cannot proceed to submission.

Sources of funding, institutional affiliations, and conflict declarations must also be included in the publication. Manuscripts not adhering to these requirements will not be published.

PN does not charge for manuscript submission; however, authors are required to pay a processing fee once the article is accepted for publication. Details regarding this fee will be provided during the acceptance stage.

Submission Process and Required Documents
Before submission, authors must register at www.progressinnutrition.it. Registered authors can track submissions and revisions using their login credentials. The following templates are mandatory for submission:

  1. PN Title Page PN title page sample
  2. PN Manuscript Template PN manuscript sample
  3. Conflict of Interest Statement

Manuscripts submitted without these files will be desk-rejected but may be resubmitted within 15 days with corrections.

Ethical Considerations
Research involving human subjects must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and be approved by an Ethics Committee. Include the name of the committee, reference number, date, and duration of approval in the manuscript. Retrospective studies exempted from ethics approval must specify this, subject to the Editor’s discretion.

Language and Editing
Submissions must meet English language standards. Non-native English speakers are encouraged to seek language revision before submission.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Use the PN manuscript template with Times New Roman 12-point font and double-spacing.
  • Limit the abstract to 250 words, structured under Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
  • Use the following order: Abstract, Keywords (5–7), Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Funding, Conflict of Interest, Author Contributions, and References.
  • Figures and tables should be embedded in the text, not at the end. Ensure high resolution (300 dpi or above). Legends must accompany all figures and tables.

References
Follow the Vancouver style: list authors (last name, initials; for more than six authors, list the first three followed by et al.), article title, abbreviated journal name, year, volume, and pages. Example:
Soliman AT, De Sanctis V, Yassin M. Chronic anemia and thyroid function. Prog Nutr 2022; 24: 119–27. doi:10.23751/pn.v24i1.12xxx.

Author Contributions Statement
Include this after the Conflict of Interest Statement and before the References. Use ICMJE authorship criteria:

  1. Substantial contributions to the work.
  2. Drafting or revising critically.
  3. Approval of the final version.
  4. Accountability for the work’s integrity.
